Suffered through a disappointing 2006 Winter Olympics after crashing in training, settling for seventh place in the super-giant slalom and eighth in the downhill. She was given the U.S. Olympic Spirit Award for her efforts. Had placed sixth in the combined event at the age of 17 at the 2002 Olympic Games.
Won a cow named Olympe for winning the 2005 World Cup downhill event at Val d'Isere (France). It lives with a goat Vonn was given by her European home base of Kirchberg, Austria for winning her two 2009 World Championships golds.
Captured the downhill and super-giant slalom gold medals at the 2009 World Championships to go with silver medals in both events at the 2007 Championships, equaling Tamara McKinney's U.S. record of four medals in the prestigious biennial event.
Severed a tendon in her right thumb while celebrating her 2009 World Championships downhill title, accidentally grabbing a broken champagne bottle. Vonn still raced in the slalom event a few days later.
